Jeremy Mayfield Arrested For Meth Possession

Jeremy Mayfield, the former NASCAR driver who was suspended indefinitely in 2009 for violating the organization’s substance abuse policy, has been arrested for drug possession and may face further charges after stolen goods were found in his home.
Mayfield, 42, was arrested Tuesday at his western North Carolina home and charged with possession of methamphetamine, according to The Associated Press. Records from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office indicate that he was charged with possessing 1.5 grams of meth.
The 1999 Pocono 500 winner posted $3,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in district court Wednesday, The AP reported. Detectives told The AP that approximately $100,000 worth of merchandise from businesses in neighboring Lincoln County was found in Mayfield’s home when he was arrested. The items found included welding equipment, truck parts and various other items that had been reported stolen.
Daniel Marin, Mayfield’s Washington, D.C.-based attorney said that the search of his client’s home was made on a “baseless allegation,” and he is denying all charges.
“Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property,” Marino said.
Mayfield showed promise in his early racing career but was suspended in 2009 when NASCAR said he tested positive for methamphetamine from a random drug test.

Ex-NASCAR driver Mayfield arrested
Jeremy Mayfield was arrested Tuesday on drug charges after officers searched his western North Carolina home and discovered drugs and stolen property.
Mayfield, 42, was charged with possession of 1.5 grams of methamphetamine.
Among the stolen items recovered: heavy-equipment parts, scrap metal, welding equipment, truck parts, an engraving machine, truck mirrors and more.
Carpenter to form IndyCar team
Driver Ed Carpenter is leaving Sarah Fisher Racing to start his own IndyCar team and said Wednesday he plans to run a full season in 2012.
Carpenter will team up with IndyCar founder Tony George, his stepfather. The team has a three-year sponsorship commitment from Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka.
